Public Workshops: Sketch the Roebling Bridge and banks of the Delaware River “in the manner of” Dolly Grey
Noon to 3PM; Saturday and Sunday

Zane Grey Museum is temporarily closed for the season and we observe PA COVID-19 Guidelines for public events as guests of the UPS/UDE. Our events take place out-of-doors and allows participants to maintain safe distancing. Masks are required.

Roebling's Delaware Aqueduct, “Roebling Bridge”, is the oldest existing wire suspension bridge in the United States. It runs 535 feet over the Delaware River, from Minisink Ford, New York, Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania (182 Scenic Dr, Lackawaxen, PA 18435). Wikipedia

About the Event

Plein Air Painting at Zane Grey Museum, the former family home of Zane and Dolly Grey in Lackawaxen, PA. Sponsored by UPPER DELAWARE SCENIC & RECREATIONAL RIVER

Now in our third year, the annual two-day outdoor landscape painting event is non-competitive and attracts both professional and amateur artists to this unique scenic location. The public is invited to watch artists at work or sketch in mini-workshops under the tent or on the riverbanks in the manner of Dolly Grey sketches of the Delaware River and Roebling Bridge. Copies of Zane’s works will be on display, including Riders of the Purple Sage", written by Zane while living in Lackawaxen.

Gratefu by the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River, our event hopes to heighten awareness and appreciation of Zane Grey, Zane Grey Museum and the Delaware River where he and his family loved to spend time; to celebrate the river's unique attributes through sketching and/or paint as Dolly did; to foster stewardship for the river to keep it clean and pristine for future generations. Our event also introduces individuals and families to the pleasure of either watching or participating in capturing the river's beauty through sketching and/or painting and may foster interest in one of the arts.

Our painting locations along Scenic Drive include: Zane Grey Museum grounds and waterfront at the junction of the Delaware and Lackawaxen Rivers; Roebling Bridge Aqueduct, Roebling Inn, Lackawaxen Drive, wildlife and bald eagle habitats, fishing, kayaking and rafting
