Our mission

Zane Grey Plein Air was founded in 2018 inspired by the Upper Delaware River Region. In acknowledgement of other scenic locations that spawned significant and enduring American Art traditions, we envisioned providing opportunities for artists to united as a community focused on the local environment as subject matter for landscape painting. A number of painting schools come to mind where I have also traveled to participate with other artists stepped these traditions:, The Brandywine School (Chadds Ford, PA) Cape Anne School, MA (Rockport MA), the Boston School (New England) and most notably the Hudson River School.

The group meets informally to paint year-round on the Upper Delaware Region and other scenic locations in Pennsylvania and New York.  In addition to its annual summer event, Zane Grey Plein Air hosts year-round, half to full-day outdoor group paint outs in the Upper Delaware Region at scenic locations in Pennsylvania and New York. Watch for announcements on our Facebook page for events and opportunities.is a leader in the field of American art, focusing on the finest works created from the 19th century to the present day. By synthesizing scholarship, research, and narrative context, the gallery presents artists’ work in a manner that encourages both newfound appreciation and deeper understanding. This rich, vivid context serves to expand the field of American art and the significance of its most stellar artists, and has encouraged collaborative relationships with leading collectors, museums, and artists’ estates. The gallery is a member of the Art Dealers Association of America, of which Andrew Schoelkopf previously served as President, and the Private Art Dealers Association.

The market for and canon of American art are undergoing a period of rapid reassessment, as the significance of leading modernist artists is increasingly acknowledged both in the United States and abroad. To help fuel this dynamism, we maintain a robust schedule of programming at the gallery in New York, online, and at leading international art fairs.

The gallery’s program communicates the entire sweep of the modernist movement in America through its presentation of innovative and important works in both abstract and realist modes, bringing change into sharper focus. Our programming is designed to delight and engage. It also serves to expand the understanding of American artists who have enjoyed decades of appreciation, and many who deserve greater attention. That perspective is shared through a series of intimately scaled exhibitions to discover less-familiar artists, and through larger scale exhibitions and publications which present the work of leading American artists, their abilities, and accomplishments, seen through a contemporary lens.

The gallery is honored to represent the Estates of Mary Abbott, and Manierre Dawson as well as the John Marin Foundation, the Max Weber Foundation and The Thomas Hart Benton Trust. Schoelkopf Gallery represents Richard Estes and the paintings of Clifford Ross.
