About In Full Bloom

JOIN US at The Cutting Garden,” for a morning of “free-range” Plein Air Painting or a Two-hour Workshop, “Painting the Outdoor Still Life,” an Impressionist approach to the still life in a natural setting. Enjoy this special opportunity to paint in a cultivated cutting garden amongst pollinator and heirloom plants with the real-life buzz of pollinators hard at work.

We’ll begin with a brief introduction to a few Russian Impressionists and some Contemporary still life painters. DEMO INCLUDES: Use of a limited palette (SEE PDF LINK) we’ll “block-in” our composition with simple shapes (in RAW UMBER or earth pigment) correcting as we go and then add vibrant color notes direct observation of playful light and shadows of the setup.

Having established a “visual order,” we continue painting in round-robin as we continue to refine the still life objects and clarify their relationships to one another. Working slowly towards a “finish,” we add the anchoring shadow shapes or tabletop shadow patterns. The final layer is where we add the magical light effects of sunlight backlighting with subtle strokes to define the rim object edges.
