We offer personalized workshops for small groups, often site specific for those interested to explore subject matter that has intrigued artists for centuries, from fantasy to the familiar — your home, your family and friends or yourself! (Rembrandt made over 100 self-portraits). Observation is a valuable skill to learn and is especially useful for artists to connect with the everyday in a creative way.

SUBJECT MATTER

• PORTRAITURE — We take a look at different styles and mediums used in portraiture, from classic to contemporary masters such as Van Gogh, Elizabeth Peyton, Kehinde Wiley or David Hockney.

• LANDSCAPE — Local sketching and drawing outdoors. Watch the light and shadows change. Receive a visit from woodland creature. Who knows? Exploration of materials for outdoor use. Easels provided.

• STILL LIFE — Composing with personal objects or browsing for curios at flea markets or in grandma’s attic. Home studio setup guidelines. Preparatory pencil sketches are encouraged.

• IMAGINARY — Sketchbook of imagery or story development in the manner of ‘ZINES.

MATERIALS
We’ll look at your favorite art supplies and introduce you to new ones along the way. Experimenting with new tools is lots of fun and learning basic skills with traditional tools is great introduction for beginners.
