IN THE LATE 1940s, HENRI MATISSE turned almost exclusively to cut paper collage. With scissors instead of his customary paintbrush, he began a series of cut-out forms of varying shapes and sizes — from the vegetal to the abstract — which he then arranged into lively compositions. Initially, these were of modest size but over time grew into mural or room-size works. As a brilliant final chapter in his long career, Matisse’s cut-outs reflect a renewed commitment to pure color and inventiveness of form.

SKILLS BUILDING: COLOR. SHAPES. COMPOSITION.
MATERIALS HANDLING: PENCILS. PAPER. SCISSORS. NON-TOXIC GLUE.

Basic Materials + Studio Setups Provided. (Reference materials, papers, boards, easels).
Please bring any favorite materials you may already use or find new favorites as we introduce featured media each week. Materials fee may apply for color.

NOTE: Some workshops may have an additional materials fee.

STUDIO + GALLERY FACILITIES:
Our Gallery Studio and classroom is equipped with multi-media projection screen, easels, tables, chairs, wash up sink and adjacent handicap accessible restrooms.
NO GLASS CONTAINERS OR TOXIC SOLVENTS MAY BE USED.

CANCELLATIONS: Weather cancellations are eligible for refund (minus credit card processing fees) or credit on a future workshop. Personal cancellations with less than 48 hours of the workshop eligible for credits only. Purchased lessons are transferrable if used within 6 months.
