About the Workshop

UpRiver 3X Landscapes is a Plein AIr Workshop Series with guest artist Eric Jacobsen, where we’ll paint at three scenic locations on the Delaware River. Over the course of three days we’ll head north, beginning in the sweet little river town of Narrowsburg NY which has been receiving no small amount of press recently. From there we’ll move on to Butchie’s Organic Farm in Cochecton NY and then on to Callicoon. Each location provides a range of subject matter, from historic main street architecture, rock cliff formations and pristine shorelines that collectively attest to the the well-earned moniker, “Scenic Upper Delaware.

Eric Jacobsen was a panelist on our FULL MOON ROUNDTABLE on Zoom last October (along with Jay BROOKS and Ben LUSSIER) and we’re delighted to host Eric this year for a LIVE workshop. A COLORIST in the true sense of the word, Eric’s work embodies a vitality and vibrancy in his approach to painting with energetic brushwork that is contagious.

Each day will begin with a one-hour demonstration with Eric, followed by a full day of painting on location, and a goal of 1-2 paintings each day. Register for 1X or all 3X sessions at a discounted rate.

About the Artist

Eric Jacobsen was born and raised in New England. He received a BA in History from Gordon College, Wenham, MA in 1989 and studied fine art at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in Old Lyme, CT from 1991-1995. At the Lyme Academy he received training in the Beaux Arts tradition of drawing and painting from life.

Eric's true inspiration is the amazing beauty he sees in nature. As a true “Plein Air” painter, Eric takes his oils wherever he goes, setting up on site and working until his painting is finished.

"It is most important to me that my paintings convey a certain mood", Eric says. "I want them to be felt by the viewer without his or her having to analyze or think about them. As a general rule, I try to find strong compositions in nature and then paint the scene accurately while leaving out any extraneous details which would only busy up the painting and detract from the strength of the piece as a whole. My painting process consists of finding a painting site and setting up to paint for a couple of hours, or until the light has changed. For larger paintings, I will return on consecutive days at the same time, under similar lighting conditions to finish a piece."

Eric Jacobsen is a member of PAPA (Plein Air Painters of America) and a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society (AIS). TO SEE MORE WORK, click here.
